about

Not just a clever title, this really is made up mostly of bits I have recorded over the last 15 years or so to test new equipment, learn new instruments, and just to generally muck about with stuff. And it is genuinely, mostly shit.

There is no cohesion whatsoever, as some of it is lovely quiet acoustic songs, some of it is throbbing electronica, some of it is relatively heavy metal, some of it is from back when I still sang in a ridiculous mid-atlantic not quite aymericane accent, and some of it features my more recent vocals, which take considerably less effort. So figuring out the track order was pretty bloody difficult. U didn't even bother remastering the levels to keep the output relatively constant, so expect to be riding your volume controls, sorry.

Remember, just because you don't like one track, doesn't mean that you won't hate the next one for entirely different reasons.

Even by my usually low standards, this is pretty dire, I make no apologies for the godawful production on most ot it, but some of it is funny. I had a few tracks i wanted to put out as the last Plastic Squirrel EP (for a while anyway) as I am now concentrating on something a little more lighthearted, which I might take out live. And it is more difficult to pretend to be either a band , or a synthetic rodent when there is an audience involved.

I figured this would be a fitting send off, all the useless outtakes from albums that were pretty out-takey to start with. Including the infamous, and long-forgotten about Disco for the Dismal EP, which got shelved after John Lewis adverts rendered it redundant as a concept.

Good luck, and enjoy

released January 31, 2015

Pretty much everything was written, played and sung by Dave Holwill, same as usual. Some of it is from Maz Totterdell, some of it is KC and the Sunshine Band, some of it is Elvis, some of it is Britney Spears and some of it is Donna Summer.

Oh, and I used the drums from a Run DMC track, but they sampled it from Aerosmith first, so I'm not sure who's the guiltiest of nicking stuff here.

about

Plastic Squirrel Devon, UK

Throwing unlikely instruments together in the comfort of my own garage since 1996. Still not settled on one type of music, because I like all types of music. Unashamedly lo-fi recording, it is the song that is important, not the production, okay?

Sorry for the slow output, but life continues to get in the way of art I'm afraid, so bear with me, there will be new material eventually.
